Previews are from 8:30 a:m the day of the sale; the sale starts at 10:00 a:m.
One of Canada’s top Morrisseau authenticators will be on hand to verify the art as genuine.
Each painting – most are valuable BDPs from Norval’s 1970s high-period – is certified by him.
NOTE: For a number of years, a small family-owned and operated gallery, Kinsman Robinson Galleries, of Toronto, has been trying to destroy its main Morrisseau art-selling competitors by claiming their paintings are all “fakes.”
KRG has targeted especially the works of Norval’s 1970s “high period” and his “Black Dry brush signed on the back Paintings” aka BDPs. Saying that only its (KRG) “Morrisseaus,” painted in the mid to late 1990s, when the artist was disabled by Dementia and Parkinson’s, and permanently in a wheel-chair, are “real.”
In fact some 70 of these BDPs have been authenticated by top Canadian forensic scientists as being genuine Morrisseaus – with DNA certainty. And without a single failing…
KRG has bragged that ALL its “Morrisseaus” are BLANK on the back; that none of its “Morrisseaus” are BDPs, signed on the back with Norval’s iconic BDP black paint signature. Which is all quite understandable, of course, because, after all, Norval, overcome with his all-enveloping mental and physical disabilities, hadn’t been able to draw a straight line or a legible signature for years… So, KRG obviously reasoned, why even get him to try to sign the damn thing, and just spoil a perfectly nice painting on the other side… And too bad for you, if you bought one of those because you cannot ever have it certified as authentic… All you have is a motivated salesman’s say so…
Judge Martial, in a landmark ruling, disdainfully dismissed the Robinson claim that every single Morrisseau BDP is a fake, saying, to the contrary, that “there is overwhelming evidence” that there are thousands of genuine Morrisseau paintings “out there” that have BDP signatures on the back.
In the Appeal the Hon. Madam Justice Mary Anne Sanderson, supported, without caveat Judge Martial in his judgment, and totally dismissed and discredited Robinson and Sinclair, their claims and testimony. And in a thinly-veiled snort openly and directly scorched Robinson, using a a clearly intended scorning quote about BDPs, from the KRG “Master of Invention” himself: “Not once have I ever seen it.” It was the only quote she used in her entire judgment.
The KRG attack on the genuine Morrisseau BDP art, sold at some 41 galleries across Canada, however, dropped the selling price of genuine Morrisseau art, tens of thousands below fair market value.
Creating a great buying opportunity for wise investors and savvy art collectors.
Some 12 court actions and lawsuits about the BDP matter have been resolved to date.
ALL, without a single, solitary exception, totally denouncing and discrediting what Kinsman Robinson Galleries claims, pointing out that it has failed to prove even a single, solitary “fake.”
And multiple judges have repeatedly and totally discredited Donald Robinson, trashing multiples of his “expert” reports, and him as not being a trustworthy or credentialed Morrisseau expert of any kind. And totally and “hopelessly” self-serving.
His chief associate in promoting this HOAX, beside his family, is Ritchie Sinclair, who has an even worse record before multiple judges.
Most recently he was huge scorched by Deputy Judge CW Kilian and fined the maximum for Libel and Defamation with regard to his unwarranted, malicious, and untruthful slanging of genuine Morrisseau art.
It’s rare that a big collection of Morrisseau paintings comes on the market.
Which is why knowledgeable dealers and collectors are heading to Clarkson Auctions hoping to snap up valuable Morrisseau art cheaply.
Wise collectors will go and look, and hope to snap up a genuine original by Canada’s top Aboriginal artist.
